How a Vacuum Cleaner Extension Cord Can Help You

The cord on the average vacuum cleaner is never usually long enough to reach every corner of your home from the one power point. If you have a house larger than a one bedroom one bathroom, then the chances are, you will have to unplug and replug in your power cord as you go about your cleaning. While this may not seem to be an overly inconvenient event, I have to do this at least 3 times in my house. I’m not sure if it’s the bending to reach the plug that bugs me or the walking backwards and forwards to re-plug it in – or both! I knew there had to be an easier way to solve this problem.

I can almost reach!!!

Have you ever just thought that you could reach that last corner of the room with your vacuum cleaner without having to re-plug it into a closer socket? Trying to stretch it out carefully all the while knowing that this is the limit of the cord… but you just have to get that bit of fluff 3cm away… Only to yank it a little too hard and have it come unplugged. Aarrrghh!!! Then the question is, do I plug it closer and return to vacuuming the last section of the room or leave it for next time?… It wouldn’t be the first time I’ve left it for next time.

Save time in your cleaning routine.

Using an extension cord as part of your cleaning schedule, you can simply plug the cord into the centre of your house and easily move from room to room. This helps in getting this dreaded chore done quicker than usual. And who wouldn’t love to save time on their cleaning?

Another time saving chore is using a squeegee in the bathroom – click here for details on this blog post, Bathroom Cleaning Made Easy.

I am all about saving time (and money) with your household chores so we have more time for the really enjoyable things in life!

The Many Storage Uses of Pegboards

I just love using pegboards as part of my organising solutions around the home. Most people will only be familiar with their use in the garage for tools. But it’s a cheap and effective way to store almost anything in the home as well.

Are you running out of storage space?

The most common ways of storing things in our homes is with drawers and shelves. These can be great providing they aren’t too deep for whatever they are storing, otherwise they become a cluttered mess making it hard to see what is inside.

Lets go vertical.

By mounting a pegboard to a wall or door, you can then make use of the vertical space that is being wasted. I have used this method in numerous areas of my home. From hanging jewellery to hats and belts or craft products to stationery items.

My local hardware store has Masonite Pegboard (915x610mm) for $12.56 which makes this storage solution really cost effective. I also buy some timber strips to attach to the edges as the pegboard needs to have clearance at the back so the hooks can be attached properly. This then gets screwed into the door or wall making all your items visible. Or you can make a frame (like I have done below) if you don’t want to have to attach it with screws – this is just positioned in between the desk and wall.

As you can see, I also like to paint my pegboards to pretty them up a bit. The pegboard below was made for my son’s bedroom to store his hats and necklaces. It seems a shame to cover the stencilled image!

If you love to do a bit of DIY then this is the perfect job for you and one that can easily be completed in an afternoon.

Storing Your Handbags

There are many ways to store your handbags. The best way for you really depends on how you use them and how much space you have. Do you have an everyday handbag and then a selection of clutches for different occasions? Do you use numerous everyday handbags and switch between them depending on your mood or outfit?

Storing your handbags doesn’t need to be difficult.

In my last post I mentioned my love of showing guests how to organise their wardrobes during my in home party demonstrations (check out the post –  Reasons to Use a Scarf Holder here). One simple solution in my product range is the Zia Handbag Holder by InterDesign. Made with clear plastic and polished chrome, it can hold up to 4 handbags on your hanging rail.

This is the perfect storage solution for those everyday bags to help keep them neat and tidy.

I also like to use a large stackable shoe box which is great for keeping those smaller bags and clutches dust free. Being stackable, this solution also helps utilise shelf space.

And lastly, using something as simple as the Kiss Kiss Folding Pouch with two compartments and a zip pouch. Perfect for storing lip gloss, band aids, medication etc that you like to keep with you. This is especially helpful if you like to swap your everyday handbag – just transfer the pouch to your current bag knowing that all your essentials are together ready for when you need them.

Save your time by being able to see all your beautiful handbags at a glance. Save your money by keeping your handbags in great condition making them last longer.

If your handbags are making a mess of your wardrobe then get them organised today!

Reasons to Use a Scarf Holder

Do you struggle to store your beautiful collection of scarves? Do you have them all hanging precariously on a coat hanger, all together, in an attempt to make it easier to see them? Have you tried to take your chosen scarf off while hurrying to get ready for the day… only to have them all fall out at the same time and make a mess all over the floor. Oh well, you will clean that mess up later – when you have time.

There are many benefits to using a scarf holder such as:

• Keeping them neat and tangle free
• Keeping them all together so they don’t get lost at the back of your wardrobe
• Being able to access them easily without making a mess
• Being able to see what you have at a glance so you can quickly get ready

Scarf holders are inexpensive to buy and are well worth it if you struggle to keep your scarves organised. If you have a large collection of scarves then investing in a few scarf holders is a great option. This way you can store them in categories such as seasonal wear, fabrics or colours.

My go to product.

When doing my in home party demonstrations, I love showing the guests how to keep their wardrobes clutter free. My simple solution in my product range is the Zia Scarf Holder by InterDesign. Made from clear plastic and polished chrome and can hold up to 18 scarves on your hanging rail.

Save your time by being able to get ready quicker and easier. Save your money by keeping your scarves in great condition making them last longer.

Using a scarf holder to organise your scarves is one of those simple organised solutions you can do today!
